Al Hayba
Al Hayba ( الهيبة) is a 30-episode, fictional series about a powerful, arms-dealing family in a small town called Al Hayba, on the border of Lebanon and Syria. The head of the family - and, consequently, the town - is the eldest son, Jabal, who runs the things with a tight but often compassionate grip. The family’s allegiances and traditions are put to the test when their estranged brother, Adel dies in Canada and his wife, Alia and young son, Joe visit Al Hayba for the first time.
Al Hayba is a fast-paced and compelling show with a star-studded cast. It’s currently available on Netflix with English subtitles - unfortunately Arabic subtitles are not an option (at least on Netflix in the US). Scroll down for a vocabulary list for episode one. Since the show opens with a funeral, we’re focusing primarily on funeral vocabulary.
