Haollak Eih by Moustafa Amar

Haollak Eih (حقولك ايه) by Egyptian singer and actor Moustafa Amar is the sort of repetitive and catchy song that’s ideal to learn from. And, when it comes to love songs with an earworm of a hook, Moustafa Amar is an expert. This throwback is ripe with the feelings and tropes of a lover who has been abandoned and is having a hard time coming to terms with it. There’s also the added tension that people seem to have been gossiping about Moustafa to his ex. Haollak Eih has some excellent dramatic vocabulary, so let’s dive in!

Translation by Fi Kalam, edited by Saeed Alaktaa

What, what should I tell you? What should I repeat?
I love you my love
Yes, I would dissolve in your wind and I’d give my life for you
I won’t forget you my love
2X

Why are you distant? What did they tell you? Tell me, reassure me
Oh, it’s been days! What a shame you remain far from me

What, what should I tell you? What should I repeat?
I love you my love

My love, while you’re far from me
Far from me and they wound me
They said so many things about me
That’s not me, they wronged me

My love, if you come back for a second
I’ll find the world calling me
Oh, what this distance from you has done to me!
Who but you can cure me?
