Shopping Vocabulary

From going to the grocery store to buying a car, shopping vocabulary comes up a lot in our lives. Knowing the right words and phrases to navigate these situations can mean the difference between getting what you need and paying double for something you didn’t want.

We put together a list of some common Arabic shopping vocabulary including some creative phrases to sharpen your bargaining skills. Below the list, you’ll find a sample dialogue using some of these words and phrases.

راغب بده يشتري سيارة

راغب: صباح الخير. انت اميرة؟

اميرة: صباح الخيرات! اه, انا اميرة. وانت؟

راغب: راغب. بدي اشتري سيارة

اميرة: اليوم اجى دورك! عندي كتير سيارات و بدي ابيعهم. بتدور على شي مُعين؟ يعني هوندا؟ فورد؟ لوتوس؟ شو ذوقك؟ او بدك تطلّع حوال المحل؟

راغب: مو سيارة مُعينة بس انا شب مرتب وبدي سيارة مرتبة

اميرة: ممتاز. عندي سيارة مناسبة الك. تعى معي. رح أفرجيك

(اميرة و راغب بيمشو عل موقف)

اميرة: شوف, السيارة الحمرة

راغب: حلوة! وقديش؟

اميرة: نص مليون

!راغب: عم تحكي عنجد؟! المبلغ خيالي

اميرة: زي ما بدك. عندي سيارة تانية, سيارة ارخص. بدك تشوفها؟

راغب: لا, بدي اتفرج شوي. لحالي

اميرة: خذ وقتك

(بعد فترة)

راغب: بالأذن, فديش هاي السيارة؟ السيارة الخضرة

اميرة: اه, اكيد. السيارة الخضرة. هاد اللون موضة العصر. مية الف

راغب: ييي, سعر واوا بس السيرة كتير حلوة. بدفع خمسين الف

اميرة: عم تمزح؟! المبلغ يلي دفعتو مش عرض, هو أهانة ! تمانين الف

راغب: ستين الف

اميرة: خمس وسبعين الف وبس. ما بدي جادل

راغب: طيب, خمس وسبعين الف. يسلمو يديك

اميرة: الله يسلمك. تعى كل يوم

Ragheb Wants to Buy a Car

Ragheb: Good morning. Are you Amira?

Amira: Very good morning! I am. And you?

Ragheb: Ragheb. I’d like to buy a car.

Amira: It’s your lucky day! I have many cars and I’d like to sell them. Are you searching for something specific? Like Honda? Ford? Lotus? What’s your style? Or did you want to take a look around the store?

Ragheb: Not a specific car but I’m a fancy man and I want a fancy car.

Amira: Great. I have a car that will suit you. Come with me. I’ll show you.

(Amira and Ragheb walk to the parking lot)

Amira: Take a look. The red car.

Ragheb: It’s nice! How much is it?

Amira: Half a million.

Ragheb: Are you serious?! The price is outrageous!

Amira: As you wish. I have another car. A cheaper car. Want to see it?

Ragheb: No. I want to look around a little. By myself.

Amira: Take your time.

(A while later)

Ragheb: Excuse me, how much is this car? The green one.

Amira: Yes of course, that color is the current style. One hundred thousand.

Ragheb: Yeee, the price is really high but the car is very nice. I’ll pay fifty thousand.

Amira: Are you joking?! That number isn’t an offer, that’s an insult! Eighty thousand.

Ragheb: Sixty thousand.

Amira: Seventy-five thousand and that’s it. I don’t want to argue.

Ragheb: Fine. Seventy-five thousand. Thank you.

Amira: You’re welcome. Come back anytime.
